I picked up another painting for my hallway---the end goal is to eventually have a layered, eclectic group of paintings, prints and collage work on top of the bookshelf. This project is going to take years, because I'm a bargain hunter and kind of choosy.
I was drawn to this portrait because I liked the expression on her face. It seems blank at first, expressionless, but if you look for a minute or so, you can see something else there. Sorrow, maybe, or determination? Or a flicker that looks like the beginning of a self-deprecating smile or an admonition? Her eyes seem to narrow in some kind of hostility, but then it quickly looks more like resignation, fatigue, or self-protection. She's the Mona Lisa of the hallway, to be sure.
For the next addition to the hallway art collection, I'll be looking for something more abstract. I'm setting my budget (again) at $30.
